Growing Up Fast

Hello everyone, how are y'all doing? So far, I am starting to adjust with my "Alone-Time" at home without the kids in the morning. Waking up early is the hard part especially for the kids because they got spoiled waking up a little late during the school break.
Their Book Bags.
This week, they have to bring cold lunch in school as  hot lunch  is not available yet.  Hot lunch will start  next week.  Although hot lunch is offered, there are days that I still have to prepare them cold lunch as they don't like the menu in school.
I documented Ms. Burrito's  Kindergarten  years  so I want to do the same for  our little man.  He seldom cooperates in front of the camera but I managed to take some.
Ms. Burrito's class room, she's in second grade now and her room is  located  near Mr. Burrito so it's a plus.
In our street, only us has small kids so they are very close to our neighbors whose kids are grown up already.
With Tita Angie.
Photos above were taken yesterday, their third day.   It's only the fourth day today but Mr. Burrito has a cold already.  My kiddos are growing up so fast.  They are already talking about the appropriate grade where they can walk to and from school by themselves.  By then, Mommy won't be allowed to walk with them no more wahhh.  Oh boy!

Hello Kitty Model

Tow people must be thinking alike during my daughter's birthday. Our family friend here from the area gave Ms. Burrito a Hello Kitty outfit then our family friend in Texas sent her a Hello Kitty necklace and purse.
She also have some hello kitty hair accessories so we  completed her look.  She became the Hello Kitty model for the day.
Thank you Tita Demcy and Tita Raquel for your   pretty  pink gifts!

How to treat a Bruise

One of the unpleasant things parents have to deal with is treating our kids’ bruises. There are several organic ways of dealing with bruises, which are kind to your kids’ skin and to their health. Bruises are unsightly black and blue marks caused by blood that leaks out from the capillaries just under the skin. While bromelain, a common ingredient in pineapple has been recommended, as well as steak, there are better remedies to be had according to James A Duke, PhD the author of The Green Pharmacy and the nation’s foremost authority on healing herbs. Dr. Duke worked for 30 years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a botanist, specializing in healing plants, so he has a very impressive background.
Let’s take a look at natural ways to treat bruises:

·         Arnica – or Arnica Montana is a natural herb, which used topically will relieve pain from swelling and inflammation while it acts as a natural antiseptic. When looking for the ointment in health food stores look for one that is at least 15% arnica oil. You can also make your own by boiling the dried arnica herb and applying the cooled tincture with a clean cloth.

·         Bromelain – this is a natural ingredient found in pineapple, but for this study the supplement bromelain is much more practical because when eating pineapple so little of the bromelain actually can be used to aid in the healing process. Those who use this course of action recommend taking a supplement containing 150 to 450 milligrams three times daily on an empty stomach.

·         Eat citrus fruits which are high in vitamin C and bioflavonoids. These help to strengthen the capillaries making them more resistant to blood leakage.

·         Grape seeds – Create your own grape juice using the entire grape in a blender so that the seeds get pulverized. Grape seeds are equivalent to pycogenol and increase the level of vitamin C in the body - assisting in healing.

·         Parsley – Parsley has a host of health benefits and nutritional elements as well, but is often scraped off the plate when the dinner is finished. It seems that crushed parsley makes a wonderful poultice to chase the blues away, the black and blues, that is.

·         Raw potatoes – cut open a potato and apply it directly to the bruise to draw out the soreness.
·         St. John’s Wort is not just a mood elevator but is also used to treat bruises, cuts, burns and other wounds. In fact Commission E has endorsed it for years. Take the beautiful flower or dried herb and steep it in vegetable oil so you have it on hand when needed. Sometimes this herb oozes red, but not to worry. This is natural for St. John’s Wort.

·         Witch Hazel – both the leaves and the bark of this bush has been used for over a thousand years to treat all kinds of skin conditions. It is truly a remarkable remedy for bruises and it is already bottled and sold in many stores and pharmacies.

Of course it goes without saying that any serious injury and treatment options should be discussed with your physician.

Essential Aspect to Children's Growth

Engaging children into outdoor activities is very essential to their growth. Expensive toys and gadgets are not enough to make them happy. In fact, they don't even need expensive stuff as long as parents are there for them every step of the way.
Simple outdoor trip like going to a nearby creek  sparks  children's   interest.
It always gives our kids  fun and  entertainment and it gives them the chance  to discover things  while exploring the beauty of nature.

Weaving Loom

Ms. Burrito find crocheting a little complicated so she stop doing it for a while. Her Aunt, Chris,  gave her a set of weaving loom during her birthday and she loves doing it.
Thank you so much Chris, you ignited  another  interest from my  princess.
To make one pot holder, it cost $1.25, she charges 75 cents for labor so she sells them for $2 each.
We bought her  additional boxes of loops because she got  an order from our friend in Texas.  I hope you enjoy  my little entrepreneur's creation.  She is my  apprentice hehehe.  Way to go Ms. Burrito.

Protect Our Children

In England last week, a teenage girl disappeared as she walked home from her grandmother’s house. Neighbours, friends and relatives searched for this child throughout the night and way into the next day. By the end of the week, the tired search parties had still come up empty handed. The child’s grandmother’s boyfriend made an emotional plea on a TV interview, beseeching the girl to return home, or for anyone with information to come forward.

A few days later the girl’s body was found in a black bag under a mattress in the house her grandmother shared with her boyfriend. Needless to say, this innocent soul’s body could not just turn up there by accident. She was killed.

A week later, a 10 year-old girl and her 2 year-old sister were struck down in the street by a hit and run driver while walking to the shop together.  No one can imagine what both these poor families are facing at the moment.

We can blame all this on the holiday season – the fact that our kids are not as supervised as we would like them to be (and as they normally are). Whatever we want to blame, let’s take a moment to remind ourselves about ways we could protect our children as we come to the close of the school vacation.

Family aren’t dependent just because they’re family

Where our kids are concerned, we have to pick the best possible person to take care of them when we are at work. Many children arrive home before their parents do. They’re left unsupervised for a few hours – and kids only need a few minutes to get into trouble. After all, they’re meant to be carefree. They’re kids. Remember that family members may not be the best solution for caring for the kids in your absence. Some family members can be lead astray by the people they associate with. If they have people in their lives you can’t trust, then chances are you can’t trust them with your children either. A stranger may do a better job in this case.

Kids can be led astray if they’re left too long on their own

If kids are walking home from school with the knowledge that they won’t have to answer to anyone when they get home, they tend to stray out of their neighbourhood. It’s easy for them to go to friends’ homes if they know that no one’s at home to check their time of arrival. Of course, your children need some measure of freedom, but if they go out on their own always keep a tab on where they’re going, how long it takes to get there and when they’re arriving back home. It only takes one deviation in an unknown part of town for kids to potentially find trouble or unscrupulous adults who mean them harm.

Don’t give young kids responsibilities they can’t honour – especially when they’re out and about

Young kids – if they’re walking to and from home on their own, need to concentrate on the road. They can’t tell the distance between a car and themselves like adults can. It’s hard enough keeping safe on the roads (adults get knocked over), let alone doing so when you have a toddler or animal on tow. Don’t give this responsibility to young kids. They won’t think twice about running into the road in chase of a ball, an animal or a younger child.  How about you? What other precautions do you take to protect your kids? Please share them with us.

A Date with my Daughter

Hubby and I decided to buy a camping tent because we are planning to go camping before this summer ends. To make sure that the set was complete, we set it up at our backyard.
Our Burritos agreed that  they will be  sleeping out that night but Mr. Burrito backed out lol.
So to avoid  disappointment from Ms. Burrito, I decided to join in with her.  Look who  jumped in  the tent as well?  It's Bolt, he did not want to miss the fun!
We had some snacks and drinks.
This Coleman Sunset Dunes tent  is wide enough to  fit a queen size  mattress.
I used our sleeping bag that we bought in Korea.  Ms. Burrito used the sleeping  bag that she  received as a gift from Tita Demcy.
I never experienced camping in my life so it was my first time.  Even though it was at our backyard, I have so many things running in my mind that  night lol.
It was a full moon so we  had Bolt with us, he served as our guard dog that night.
We slept soundly the entire night.  It was a very special date with my daughter.
