Books For the Heart, Mind, and Soul : Summer Reading List #WisdomeTales

The school year is almost over, we have few more weeks left and the kids will be on break from school.  My husband  has  one week left with his  schooling  this semester and I can't wait till he finished all of the stuff that he need to do for his finals.  I can tell how stressed he is dealing with all of the projects and other requirements.  He still have one semester left before finishing his master's degree and I'll be glad when he graduate already.  Anyway, back to the summer break, it is important to keep the children busy when they are off from school so their  brain  are constantly engage  with  stuff.  Reading is one of the  activities that we do during summer.
I am happy  to have these great books from Wisdom Tales .  All of their books  are full of valuable life lessons and the illustrations are just beautiful.  We have a collection of some of their greatest books written by different  well-known authors and illustrators.  The Rock Maiden is  a beautiful story of  love, devotion, and faith of a wife whose husband was lost at sea during a storm.  It is a Chinese Tale of Love and Loyalty written by Natasha Yim and illustrated by Pirkko Vainio.
The Rock Maiden is a story based  on an old Chinese legend.  The real rock is called the Amah Rock, a natural rock formation shaped amazingly like a woman with a baby on her back.  The author wanted to have a happy  ending on this story so she re- envisioned  the story with a happy ending.  I won't spoil you with the details, you have to read it to  appreciate the whole story but I highly recommends it.  I am sure your children would love to read this book.  It is appropriate for children ages 4 and up.  You can buy it for $17.95 though the link I have provided above.
The Princess and the Six Swans is another beautiful story as well.  It is a tale from the Brother's Grimm which is retold and illustrated by Kim Jacobs.  The story is about a young spirited  heroine Princess  named Sophie who carried the loyalty too far that her powerful  stepmother turned her  six brothers into swans.  She had the  task to save her  her brothers  from the spell that their  stepmom have cast on them.
I love the  complexity of the story, the twist and turn  will make you feel like you are watching a movie.  Children would absolutely love this  book as it has that magical fantasy that would surely captivate any kid's attention.
I saved the best for last because this book  satisfies my curiosity and admiration about Native Americans.  I only see them in movies and wishes that I would know more about them so this book is  perfect.  It contains the Indian voices on nature,.  Sometimes I have to reread the  phrases to understand  the interconnectedness of all things.  It's amazing how the Indians relate things to nature.  It is fascinating to me.
I love all the photos that were  inside  the book.   Joseph Bruchac did a wonderful job in  conveying   the messages.  I haven't finished reading this book but so far, I love  all the phrases  that Indian people used to  talk to nature.  If there is one thing I  would be given a chance to do, I would choose to live  in an Indian community to  fully understand their ways of living, it  is so interesting and  very unique.

EJ's BIrthday Gifts #iseemebooks

On the morning of EJ's 9th birthday, he woke up and looked around and was bummed out that he did not see any gifts.  I did not want him to see what he got until he comes home from school so I did not wrap them yet.  When  they left to school, that's when I wrapped  all of them up.
He was pretty pleased when he arrived from school and saw the stack of gifts  waiting for him in the living room.
I made him an organizer for his hot wheels car  from  upcycled empty boxes.  I am glad he liked it.
His sister, Ate Rylie got him a nautica shirt and a star war shirt which he liked.
I stopped having birthday parties for my kids when they started  going to school.  It's just something that hubby and I agreed upon, to just take them somewhere for their birthday every year.  We went to Kalahari for his 9th birthday.
We also got him this Avengers pillow which he  love.
And the bean bag that he wanted.
I mistakenly ordered the small bean bag online so his is not as big as his sister's but he was okay with it.
A big thank you to the Dias family for always remembering  our special occasion.  They never failed to  send us  presents no matter what occasion it is.  Thank you!
Thanks also to Tita Chris and Tita Gail for the cash gift which he  put in his savings.  He has been saving all his money to buy his first car lol.  I love that he is starting to have a vision about saving and not spending his money  for  things that doesn't really matter.   For the best part, I also got him a personalized book from iSeeMe.
I gave this to him a little late but it was a perfect timing when it arrived.  He was upset when he came home from school because he thought he messed up the test that he took that day.  He wasn't able to bring  his notes before the snow day so we didn't get to study for his test.  This book made him feel better after I calmed him down and told him that he can still  make it up to his grade by  getting a high score next time.
If you are looking for something special to give to your child  this Valentine's day or for any special occasion, iSeeMe has a lot of selection of  personalized books.  Who Loves Me? book would be perfect for the  love month.  I am sure that you and your little  cutie will have fun reading this sweet book.

Great Books to Read over the Holidays

My son is beginning to count the days till Christmas.  He can't wait to open up his presents laying underneath the tree.  He asked me a couple of times if he could open up one gift so I let him open the one that his godparent  gave him.    We finished  shopping for gifts last weekend.  I will do  some more wrapping tomorrow and that's about it.
Anyway, some of the gifts that the kids are receiving  is books.  I always get them some books to read especially that they are off  from school  during the holiday.  It is important to keep them busy during the cold days and get their mind working.  I got my son two books from Wisdom Tales.  First is this President Lincoln  book.  I have mentioned before that my son  is very interested in reading books about  past US presidents so I thought this book is  a perfect one for him to keep him inspired and motivated.
This book is coming out in February of 2016.  I got one of the advance copies which I am very thankful because it is perfect for Christmas  gift.  I don't know much about  President Lincoln since I wasn't born here so I read this first before I  wrapped it.  It is very interesting to reas a book about a famous man and this book,  President Lincoln: From Log Cabin to White HOuse is such an inspiring book to read of any people of  age.  I love the illustration of this book, I am sure my son would be delighted to read this.
Here's a summary of what you can expect about this book:
From a small log cabin in Kentucky to the steps of the White House, Abraham Lincoln rose from humble beginnings to the very height of prominence and prestige. Leading America through the momentous events of the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the abolition of slavery, the story of “Honest Abe” is one that all children should know. President Lincoln: From Log Cabin to White House is not only a powerful teaching tool, but an entertaining and age-appropriate introduction to a man who has become one of the most influential and admired presidents of the United States.
Another book that I would love my son to read is the story of Saint Anthony the Great.  This is a great book to get inspiration  from if you are feeling unhappy and sometimes jealous of  other people's accomplishment.  This man  became a saint because of the sacrifices that he did.  He gave up all of his material  possesions  and live a life that is meaningful and helpful to other people.
This book shows how hard it is to do what is right all the time but  it is possible if you  you really try your best.  It also a testament that life is full of twist and turns, so many temptations will come along your way even igf you are trying to do  what is right.
Here's  what you can expect from this book:
Saint Anthony the Great tells the story of the father of Christian monasticism, who lived in the Egyptian desert just two hundred and fifty years after Jesus’ lifetime. This beautifully illustrated book will capture the attention of young readers and help teach them about Anthony’s struggle to acquire a pure heart. Here is a timeless story about the victory of good over evil, inside us and around us.

Kids, You've Been Good This Year! Personalized Books from iSeeMe #ProductReview

Our kids have been so good in school.  We are very happy that they are  thriving so well and have good grades.  I can say that being a stay-at-home-mom really help them a lot because  hubby and I guide them through.  My kids are like night and day.  My daughter love to  sit and study but my son is  the opposite.  I used to  be strict on him but I realized that  all I am doing is  damage his confidence so I let him do whatever he needs to do and  not worry about it.  The result is amazing even though he doesn't study as much as his sister does.  It's not as  perfect as his sister but still a straight A student so I am so proud of both of  our kids.
To reward their  best efforts in school, I am putting up a good Christmas basket for them fir all the hard work they do in school.  One of those  nice things I am including are personalized books from I See Me.
For our daughter, I got her the  "Night Before Christmas"  and for our son, it's the "A Christmas Bear for Me".  MY kids love anything personalized.  They always say that they will keep and take good care of it so they can pass  it down to their own kids someday.  That always makes me happy that they think that way.
My son has always something in his  hand when he goes to bed.  Things that he likes like car or his favorite Lego that he build or stuff like that.   I think that this book,  A Chrsitmas Bear for Me, will be perfect for him because it came with a little soft bear that he can hold on to when he goes to sleep.
I really love iSeeMe's books because of the personalization.  You can customized it with names and dedications.
The illustration on these books are awesome.  Nothing can make  a child very happy to see their names on the book, people that they know and care about.
This would really make my son very happy.  To be able to see his name in every page of the book is magical.
He would flip to see this  note from Santa Claus.  He will think that is so cool.
I know that my  daughter is a little older for this kind of book but she always   appreciates  this things.  She loves customized gifts just like her brother.  They are both like me as I love personalized gifts as well.  My Night Before Chrsitmas book would make her day.  It has the names of her friends ans I included her photo with her  guinea pig, Dunkin on the first page.
I really love that you can customize these books.  You can  put your place,  your pets, friends., and family
I wish I have  these kind of books when I was a kid.   would have been thrilled!
If you want to consider giving these  great books for your children this Christmas, now is the time to get them.  You can enjoy a 20% discount  through using coupon code IMAGINATION at the checkout.

The school is celebrating Spirit Week this week so they get to   enjoy  days without wearing uniform depending on the them  for the day.  Today is Disney It Up day so they wore their Mickey and Minnie Mouse shirts.  My son actually has no Mickey mouse shirt so what I did is print out  a MM image and  put it in his shirt  with the little help from labeling supplies.

EJ Can Change the World

During the  book fair last year, my son asked me if he can buy a set of  books about the US president so I bought it for him.
One of the personalized children's book that I See Me! sent me for review is this EJ Can Change the World that my son really love.  It's amazing how simple words and sentences can give  hope and  perspectives to kids.
Even though this book is not on my son's  reading level anymore, he loves it  just because it is quite unique.
His favorite part is  the page where his picture appeared.  He thought it's really sweet.
I See Me! has a lot of back to school collection such as LunchboxesPuzzlesColoring BooksPlacemats,   Stickers, and Growth Charts! You can find just about anything for special children in your life.

Parenting is a HEART Work

I have two tweens at home  and their personalities clashes sometimes because they have different interests.  One of the   things that they have in common is music and arts so I am very pleased with that.  They are such good kids  but that doesn't mean that they are  saints either, they have their moments for sure that sometimes makes me question  my  role as a parent.  Hubby and I are constantly  learning  ways to  become better  parents to our children.  We are always seeking ways to improve our ways in handling our children's situations.
We learn from other parents, we learn from other kids, and we certainly learn from our own children.  Our children can teach us valuable lessons too so we have to be very open in learning and seeing the signs that our kids are telling us.  When my kids were little, I was very hot tempered, my patience is very short and it was affecting how I handle things at home.  It affects my kids and it certainly affects my   confidence of  doing my job as a Mom.  As they grow older, I also changed my ways and now, I can handle things better in a very calm way.  I am glad that there are parenting books that we can read these days. I got a copy of this Parenting is a Heart Work  that was  written by Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller.  They are the same authors that wrote the book I  reviewed previously, the Motivate Your Child Action Plan.
So far, I am enjoying it's content.  I am not done  reading the entire book but it definitely shed some lights about my parenting ways.  It gives me   wonderful insights on how to handle things with our kids.  I love that they  uses  examples from real parents and they also  site  stuff from the Bible.
With so many  messed up stuff happening in this world, we have to be very vigilant and get involved in our children's lives.  Our world is changing and   every generation is changing their ways.  We need to be proactive and constantly  look for ways on how we could raise our children to be a better citizen someday.  They are our future so the way they will be as adult  depends on how we raise them as individuals.
Parents are children's first teachers.  Their learning starts from our home, it starts with us.  We become their big influence on how they would act in  public.  Reinforcing  strong morals and good behavior in our kids is important as  they would soon be exposed  in the real world and  see and experience things differently.
If you instill a great foundation in them, there's a greater chance that they would do just fine in the challenges that they will face in the real world.  There are parents nowadays who are scared to discipline their child.  Disciplining your child  doesn't mean you have to do it  physically, the  great way to handle discipline is through reaching their emotions, touching their hearts.
I am very strict Mom but I also have limitations.  I set limits for my kids and I also set limit for myself.  It needs to be balanced.  Sometimes we  forget to listen to what our kids is saying.  I have been there but I learned my lesson and glad that I corrected myself and now I have a better  communication with my kids.
I used to tell them that I should be followed because I am the Mom but it was wrong.  I changed my approach and now  things are better with me and my kids.  I am not  stressed and they are happy.  You see, parenting is a constant learning process, it's a work in progress.  You will learn everyday.  This book is really a great read for every parents out there.  You will learn   a different approach for  different situation.  You can buy this here via Amazon for $12.90
The National Center for Biblical Parenting is launching their  Parent Training Center program  to help  churches disciple parents.  You can check further details at biblicalparenting.org website.  When your church sign upm  the book will  be included in the Parent Training Centers.
