Accidents Happen

Hubby and I are the type of parents that can be very  protective of our kids.  My SIL used to call me a worry-worth because I can't sit comfortably in my chair if I can't see where my kids are, my husband is the same way.  We watch like a hawk whenever we are outdoors, in the playground, and anywhere we go.  That's why when I first send my daughter to school, I felt sick because I was not comfortable being away from her.

Anyway, accidents happen which we don't have control of no matter how we tried.  It's part of growing up, they always say.  Well, let me tell you what happened to my son's fat lip.  I was doing my exercise routine  one day and  I did not  notice that my son has crawled beside me to get the timy ball that he is teasing our dog with.  When I lifted my hand, bum, the weight (4 lbs) hit his lip.  I felt so bad.

I am just so glad that after we put some  ice pack on it, the swelling went away.  Thank goodness.

Perfect Smiles, Perfect Teeth

World's First Baby Formula Maker

Having a baby is very exciting especially for first time parents. Along with the excitement is also a big responsibility that involves not only physical and emotional aspects but also the financial readiness of the couple.  There are so many things that you need to buy  and will continue to spend on with your finances such as diapers, clothing, medical, and baby formula.   For those Moms who  chose to feed their babies with  baby formula, you can save time in preparing your baby's bottle  through this innovative  baby formula maker from Piena.

I included a  video below  to show how life could be easier for  new parents to take care of their babies.  You can check the  The Piena Youtube page or you can  visit their Facebook page to see what other Moms are saying about this world's first baby formula maker.  You can also check  Piena  through Twitter @PienaInc or visit their Website at www.mypiena.com.  Spending time with your baby is just a  precious bonding so if you could lessen the time preparing other things and spend more time with them, the better.

Camping, Cooking, Dressing Up, etc.

Now that school days is in full swing, my kids wishes that it is still summer time  and off from school.  They had so much fun during their school break that it is a bit harder to get back to their normal routine of school stuff.  Anyway, as I have mentioned before,   our very good neighbor's  family visited them  and the  kids just had a blast almost everyday.

We let them camp in our backyard using our camping tent and they slept there.  This is one advantage of having a fenced in  home, you can  at least be confident n that nobody sees what you are up to.  I feel secure of having the kids camp out in the backyard.

When they woke up in the morning, they  decided to cooked breakfast.  After they ate, the fun continues by playing buy and sell.  They they played dress up as well.

I don't blame the kids missing the  school break as I miss it too.

Rainy Day Activities for Children

With autumn now here in full force we are expecting lots more rainy weekends and with lots of outdoor activities off limits what can you do to prevent your children quickly getting bored of being stuck indoors? Here are some fun rainy day activities for kids this autumn and winter.

Online Games
Free online games for kids are great for children of school age, they can be played on the computer or even a tablet device and, thanks to the many developments in games they are educational as well as fun. Knowing your child is learning things related to their age or school activities can be great peace of mind! Make sure you pick a game which is age appropriate for your child so they can get the most out of it and if possible help them find a game related to the activities they have been completing in school.  If you have an iPhone or iPad you will find lots of learning games available for free in the app store!

Baking
Baking with your children is a fun way of spending the afternoon and the skills they will learn whilst doing so will be invaluable! The possibilities are also endless, you could invest in a child specific cookbook which means easier recipes with less ingredients so your child can take a more hands on approach, you could simply use some of your own recipes, or you could make bases such as cookies and cupcakes and get your child you add the toppings and decorations such as icing, sweets and dried fruit. With Halloween approaching it can be a fun time to follow a spooky theme with your cakes and cookies! As well as baking you can also teach your child how to cook simple meals, or even create your own mini pizzas and let your children choose the toppings!

Arts and Crafts
This can be as fun as baking, although without the yummy treats at the end! Arts and crafts can be as simple as painting a picture. If you have a family birthday coming up or other such event why not let your child get creative and make handmade birthday cards? They have a far more effective touch than something which was store bought! Handmade gifts can also be created for the grandparents. Examples of such include creating salt dough hand and foot prints with your child which they can then paint! Salt dough opens up a world of handmade gift possibilities which are truly unique to your child's imagination.
Treasure Hunting
Perfect for the younger children, especially ones that love pirates and adventure. Create a series of clues or a map and then hide treats or further clues and questions around your house. This is a fun activity that everyone can get involved in and helps develop problem solving and map reading skills. Although this can be seen as an Easter activity it can easily be completed throughout the year with modifications for the time of year and the treats which are being used.

The History of Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease of the central nervous system and believed to be an autoimmune disease as well. An autoimmune disease arises from an inappropriate immune response of the body against substances and tissues normally present in the body.

In the case of Multiple Sclerosis, the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, also called myelin, are damaged. One can compare Myelin to the insulation on electrical wires. When myelin is damaged, the messages that travel along that nerve may be slowed or blocked. Symptoms of MS may include:
  • Numbness or weakness in one or more limbs
  • Double or blurring of vision
  • Tingling, pins and needles sensation or pain in parts of your body
  • Electric-shock sensations that occur  with bending head backwards
  • Tremor, lack of co-ordination or unsteady gait
  • Slurred speech or problems when swallowing
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness

These symptoms consistent with MS have been studied and researched for centuries in order to determine the causes and progression of the disease. Treatment has improved to help patients to live a normal life as possible.

1838-1868: Some of the first autopsy reports dates back to 1838. The reports included detailed images of the bodies of the deceased revealing what we now understand to be  areas ‘’plaques’ or  scar tissue caused by inflammation of the brain. In 1868, an association was made by a French professor named Jean-Martin Charcot between the plaques he saw in an autopsy with the tremors, slurred speech, and irregular eye movements from which the deceased woman suffered but he didn’t know what caused the mysterious disease.

1870s: MS was officially recognized as a disease in its own right in the 1870s.

1930s: Medical breakthroughs like to view cells under a microscope helped the medical community to study the progression and symptoms of MS. It was also now possible to detect abnormalities in spinal cord fluid and record electrical activity of the nerves.

1960s: One theory made more concrete in the 1960s was the idea that the immune system attacked the myelin coating of the nerves, and therefore acted like an autoimmune disease.

1980s: In 1981 the first MRI was used to view the brain of someone with multiple sclerosis.
The University of Maryland Medical Centre stated that the majority of patients with MS can look forward to a normal, or very close to normal, life span. People diagnosed with MS tend to pass away from other conditions rather than MS, making it vital to understand this condition. Some of the reasons why people pass away include heart disease and cancer, and not necessarily MS itself. Except for patients with severe MS, life expectancy can be quite good and treatments can be very effective indeed.

In our modern day and age, living with MS has become more manageable and the life expectancy of patients are increasing. However, there is currently no cure for MS, making it vital to get the right treatment and make the necessary lifestyle changes so that you can live a full life.

Dora the Explorer

My kids are no longer  interested in Dora but one day out of boredom, my daughter  drew this.

I remember those times when they were still  into watching the Dora show.    I would hear the "Do-do-do-do-Dora, Do-do-do-do-do-Dora... Dora, Dora, the Explorer..." song lol.

Anyway, I find it interesting that  even if she doesn't watch the show anymore,   Dora's image still lingers in her mind.  These two are growing up so fast.  I wish I can hold on to their innocence lol.

Funkiest Deck Chair Designs of the Summer

If you have a nice garden, you probably want to use it in order to enjoy the sunny weather. What better way to relax is there than sitting by the pool on your favorite deck chair? A lot of people are looking to have the trendiest and funkiest designs when it comes to deck chairs like the ones you can find at www.yescomusa.com.   If you are in the market for some cool, new designs this summer, here are a few suggestions.

1. Eco deck chair
Being green is really cool at the moment so, if you are part of that movement, you could show your support with a couple of eco designer deck chairs. You can get them in a variety of styles, but the principle is basically the same in that they are made using natural or recycled material. More often than not, the wood is recycled, the canvas is made from natural cotton and vegetable inks are used for prints.
2. Wideboy deck chair
Not all chairs have to be designed for a single person. If you have someone who you want to lounge around with, then the wideboy deck chair is a perfect choice. Like the eco design, you can find plenty of colors and prints to suit your preferences, but all of them are made wide enough to fit two people.
3. Deck chair + stool combo
This is the ultimate comfort combination. When you feel like really lounging, this deck chair features a vintage style that also includes a top to protect your head from the sun and, more importantly, an extra stool that folds out so you can recline all the way back.
When you are looking for a few new pieces to decorate your backyard with, visit  http://www.yescomusa.com and you will be pleasantly surprised with all the variety and quality you experience.

Tiny Soles Kamik Winter Boots

My children's school is just 5-minute walk from our home so 95% of the time, we  walk  even  on Winter times.  Having said that, I have to ensure  that they have a comfortable stuff to bundle up during Winter from head to toe so they won't get cold.

TinySolesI am very fortunate to have given a chance to review one of the high-end  winter boots  from Tiny Soles.  I love it that they   also slipped a  handwritten  note which for me  is the sweetest thing.  It only shows how  they truly  care for their customers.
Tiny Soles sent me a pair  of
Kamik Rocket2 Stripes Navy Kids for my son.  This  is built in the US but it is made in Canada.  The materials they used is a combination of 600 Denier Nylon  on the upper part of the shoe  for maximum flexibility with a waterproof rubber bottom.

As you can see in the photo above, it is highly insulated with a removable 8mm Zylex Liner to ensure that  those feet will   be warmed and dry.  It also  feature an adjustable  corded cuff to seal out snow.

The adjustable midfoot velcro strap  aids to  have a perfect fit.  The flexible rubber soles is great to maximize traction which is very important  for us  as we walk during winter times to and from home and school.

This Kami Rocket2 Winter Boots is  perfect for snow, slush and cold days! My little man loves it, it fit his feet perfectly and he said that it snug his feet comfortably.

This pair of Kamik boots cost $54.  You can  buy it from their website by visiting the link I have provided above.    To get in touch with them, LIKE Tiny Soles in Facebook.  Thank  you so much Tiny Soles for the great opportunity you have give me, it is  a  pleasure working with you!
